Over the last few decades, a considerable number of jurisdictions have abolished inheritance tax. On the other hand, reflecting widening economic inequality, there are discussions to revisit the wealth redistribution function of inheritance tax. This article presents an overview of inheritance tax systems and recent discussions on inheritance taxation in Asia-Pacific.
