Recent Steps towards Digitization of the Hungarian Tax System

Hungary has, for some time, been at the forefront of developing digital tax administration in Central and Eastern Europe. In this context, this note provides an interim snapshot of the current development priorities and emerging trends, highlighting key milestones in the development of data-driven taxation, the impact of the digital ecosystem’s development on tax authorities and taxpayers, and questions that arise in this context. With these steps towards digitization, Hungary is undoubtedly moving closer to the “making tax ‘just happen’” concept.
