Weather derivatives, which are based on a weather-related index, are financial instruments that can be used by an entrepreneur as part of a risk management strategy to reduce risk associated with adverse or unexpected weather conditions. This article considers the Austrian tax and accounting treatment of income from such instruments, from both a corporate and individual perspective, and in both a domestic and international context.
